Liquid nitrogen container is a storage vessel that is used to store and transport liquid nitrogen at cryo-zero temperature of ?196 °C (?321 °F or 77 K). Liquid nitrogen (LN2) is generated through fractionation of air in air separation plants, which involves purification, compression, cooling and condensation of air, before storing it in a liquid nitrogen container.
A liquid nitrogen container is incorporated with thermal insulation system and is designed to tolerate abrupt temperature and pressure changes. Its components are so designed to meet these specific requirements.
The containers are double-walled, cylindrical and primarily made up of 5 components, that is, inner jacket, insulation system, outer jacket, neck and handle. The inner jacket is in direct contact with liquid nitrogen and hence is made of materials that are able to withstand extremely low temperature, e.g. stainless steel, aluminium and nickel alloys. The outer jacket is expected to withstand environmental changes and hence is made of durable, insulating materials like aluminium, carbon steel, fiberglass-reinforced plastic, HDPE. The neck has a narrow opening for pouring out liquid, but is also plays a role in venting out excess gas pressure due to static evaporation.
Vacuum technology facilitates an insulation system between the two jackets to minimize the thermal transfer through conduction and convection, thereby, reducing the rate of static evaporation.
We offer two different capacities of liquid nitrogen containers, that is, 31.5 L and 50 L to meet both small and large scale laboratory needs respectively.
